Bride Admits She Wants Divorce One Day After Her Wedding Because Husband Pranked Her

Aug 21, 2023

A woman has revealed she wants to divorce her husband just a day after their wedding because of a prank he pulled during the ceremony. The incident has sparked a heated debate on social media about boundaries and respect within relationships.

As the wedding music faded into silence, the guests gathered for a poignant moment looking over to the radiant bride and groom who were standing beside their elegant cake. The couple held the cake knife in both their hands and then slowly started slicing through the elaborate sponge layers.

But when the groom's hand inched closer, a fleeting tension started to ripple through the bride. In an unexpected move, the groom swiftly seized a handful of cake and playfully smeared it across his new wife's face.

This age-old scenario and ultimate wedding prank reignited a debate after the story of the bride’s heartfelt woes went viral after appearing in the Dear Prudence advice column, published on Slate in January 2022. It has opened up a spirited discussion online as several social media users believe these cake-in-the-face moments represented a significant warning of future marital troubles.

The anonymous lady, who called herself Give Him Till February, wrote to Prudence and recounted the humiliating experience that led her to reflect upon the marriage. She explained that not only had the groom violated her boundary, but he had also planned the prank in advance, even having backup cupcakes prepared in case the cake was destroyed. Prior to the wedding, they talked about not doing this trending prank.

Once it happened, the bride immediately left. The following day, she informed her husband that their marriage was over. She also revealed that everyone they know had been convincing her to give him a second chance because she may have overreacted.

Social media users expressed their support for the bride's decision to divorce, arguing that boundaries and respect should be paramount in any relationship. Some commenters highlighted that such behavior could be indicative of deeper issues within the relationship and should not be dismissed as mere wedding day hijinks.

"Honestly good for her because if he can’t respect that one simple boundary, then why even be married to someone like that?" wrote Hibzter in August 2023. "Her family/friends are trash for convincing her to give him a 2nd chance. I’m glad she didn’t listen."

TikToker LouLou Orange also had the same experience and detailed how she felt that the prank "showed how little her husband respected her.” So, she filled out the paperwork for her marriage's annulment inside the Uber she took as she left the wedding venue.

"There was one rule, she was clear about it, he chose to to ignore it and it won't be the last time you can be sure of that," a Reddit commenter said, as the story was also a hot topic on the website.

Interestingly, some wedding photographers chimed in on the conversation, revealing that the cake-in-the-face tradition might even serve as an indicator of the future success of a marriage. Stories emerged about photographers predicting divorces based on this act of cake smashing.

Dating Coach Abi Blears told Cosmopolitan that this trend must stop.

"What woman dreams of this happening in their wedding day?" she pointed out. "What man thinks this is what women want on ANY day, least of all on one so special, on one where women feel pressurized into looking their very best? To me it’s horrifying.”
