Brad Pitt Sells His Home Of Almost 30 Years For $39M After Buying It From Horror Icon For Only $1.7M

There are few movie stars as universally recognized as Brad Pitt. The actor is best known for his leading roles in some of Hollywood's most iconic films. Even though the actor turned 59 in December 2022, Pitt continues to be a huge box-office draw. As he pushes 60, it's clear that Pitt has come a long way since he entered show business in the late 1980s.
Pitt's breakout role came in 1991 when he starred in the film "Thelma & Louise" as a charming drifter. This led to more leading roles in films such as "A River Runs Through It," "Legends of the Fall," and "Interview with the Vampire." In the late 1990s, Pitt became a household name, thanks to his leading roles in hit films such as "Seven," "Fight Club" and "Ocean's Eleven."
Pitt has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including a Golden Globe Award for his role in "12 Monkeys" and an Academy Award for his role in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." He has also been nominated for three other Academy Awards for his performances in "Moneyball," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and "12 Years a Slave."
Apart from being a celebrated and decorated actor, Pitt is also a real estate enthusiast. He has a sprawling portfolio of mansions and properties that he has worked hard for through the years.
In March 2023, Pitt made a huge move for one of his most lavish properties, his Los Feliz mansion in Los Angeles, costing $39 million – a huge markup considering he got it only for a meager amount three decades ago! Read on to learn more about Pitt’s real estate ventures and how he managed to buy a lavish mansion for such a small amount.

In January 2023, a source told People Magazine that Pitt had listed his mansion, sprawling under two acres, on the market. Apparently, the “Babylon” actor is looking for a smaller place to live in, exchanging the mansion for something more quaint.
Notably, Angelina Jolie, Pitt’s ex-wife, brought a house nearby the Los Feliz mansion. In an interview with British Vogue, Jolie explained her decision:
“I wanted it to be close to their dad, who is only five minutes away. I felt a little pressure moving in. Like I had snuck into where DeMille and Chaplin would hang out.”
Based on records, Pitt copped the craftsman-style mansion in 1994 from horror icon Elvira, most commonly known as Cassandra Peterson. At the time, the property only cost $1.7 million, a meager amount for such as lavish estate.
According to Architectural Digest, the mansion was erected in 1915 and houses six bedrooms and seven bathrooms across a living space of 6,692 square feet. To make use of it more, Pitt expanded it by purchasing two more adjacent properties.
By 2023, the estate spanned 1.9 acres and had a tennis court, a skate park, and a world-class swimming pool. Based on photos, the house has two red brick chimneys, plenty of patios, and a woodsy dark brown siding.
Not only was the mansion the home for the Pitt-Jolie household until 2016, but it was also the place where music icon Jimi Hendrix wrote his hit song “May This Be Love,” TMZ reported. Talk about the history that the house held!

In a 2004 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Pitt gushed about his love for architecture, saying it lifts up one’s soul and affects the mindset.
So it comes as no surprise that Pitt has gathered quite a collection of substantial real estate. Among them are a Zen Hollywood Hills pad, a Santa Barbara vacation home, and a $60 million villa in the south of France in the Château Miraval winery.
But perhaps the most important one was his Los Feliz mansion which became his home for three decades. Since it was listed in January 2023, Entertainment Tonight exclusively reported that the home has now been sold for $39 million, staying true to the original reports back then.
“Brad Pitt has sold his Los Feliz home for around the asking price of $40 million. The deal was done off-market," the outlet’s source said.
In August 2022, it was reported that a Carmel, California, clifftop mansion was added to Pitt’s real estate portfolio – which was his choice for “something smaller” compared to the Los Feliz mansion.
In reality, the newer mansion wasn’t even relatively smaller than the old one – it was reported by The Wall Street Journal that the estate runs for 2.51 acres, more than half an acre bigger than his family home.
Turns out, the recent move Pitt was prompted by the new Los Angeles mansion tax, which would require celebrities on the affluent side of Los Angeles to pay a 4% transfer tax for properties worth $5 million and a 5.5% tax for those exceeding $10 million.
Yahoo reported that the money from the collected tax would be funneled into the city’s public housing program to curb the homelessness crisis in the City of Stars.
What can you say about Brad Pitt’s decision to sell his family mansion? Do you think it was a wise one? Which one do you prefer, the Los Feliz mansion or the Carmel Clifftop estate? Let us know, and pass this on to your family, friends, and other Brad Pitt fans!
