Jul 28, 2020

The fun, dynamic, and sometimes difficult moves of line dancing was thought to be a style of the past, but there are still individuals lining up all over the country to stomp to their favorite songs. We've collected ten excellent line dance performances to showcase these incredible tracks — from Shania Twain's Any Man Of Mine to Billy Ray Cyrus' Achy Breaky Heart.

This list of 10 songs are standards in the line dancing community, not including popular line dances like The Cha Cha Slide or Cotton-eyed Joe, but instead legendary country songs that you'll hear at a dance hall.

Any Man Of Mine - Shania Twain

This song was practically made for the dance hall given its reliance on heavy stomps and claps. If you're not running toward the dance floor when you hear this Shania Twain classic, ready and will to perform an electric boogie, you probably shouldn't call yourself a line dancer.

Louisiana Saturday Night - Mel McDaniel

This song comes with its own accompanying dance entitled the Louisiana Kick and features plenty of kicks, claps, and lengthy weaves. If McDaniel is ambitious enough to start his song off with "Kick off your shoes and you throw them on the floor," he more than deserves a spot on this list.

Watermelon Crawl - Tracy Byrd

Before the Cupid Shuffle was walking dancers through steps, there was Tracy Byrd's Watermelon Crawl. This dance is fun, and anyone can do it because the singer walks through the steps of the dance! With wiggling and jiggling galore, rest assured you won't have a bad time doing this dance.

Baby Likes to Rock It - The Tractors

In the mid-90s, there wasn't a night where you'd enter a country bar and not hear Baby Likes to Rock It. Although The Tractors were a one-hit-wonder band, this song lives in the minds, and hearts, of country lovers around the country.

And, interestingly enough, this song holds the record for the largest country line dance. In 2002, 12,000 participants danced along to the song in Hong Kong, according to BillBader.com.

Indian Outlaw - Tim McGraw

Although Indian Outlaw was released over 20 years ago, it still holds up as a huge hit in dancehalls. And this makes sense because, when it was released, Billboard called the song "either one of the catchiest or one of the stupidest songs" ever released. Regardless of this, it's still an incredibly fun song to dance to.

In the 80s and 90s, songs were oftentimes released with an accompanying dance. And, although that practice is no longer commonplace, Good Time was a popular example of this. Although no longer a commonly heard country single, Alan Jackson knows a good deal about line dancing, and the dance to this song is reflective of that.

Copperhead Road - Steve Earle

This particular song, unlike most on this list, isn't your typical country song. In fact, it's dubbed an alternative country song, although that doesn't mean you can head to a dancing hall without knowing the steps to this classic. And, even though strict country fans aren't always a fan, many love getting down to Copperhead Road.

What The Cowgirls Do - Vince Gill

This song is credited with the creation of the "Cowgirl Twist," which is a very prevalent line dancing move. And, with easy steps that are a great deal of fun, this dance is great for beginners and experts alike.

Boot Scootin' Boogie - Brooks & Dunn

This song, a tribute to line dancing, has at least sixteen dances associated with it. In fact, one of the versions held a world record for World's Largest Line Dance, according to BillBader.com.

Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus

Finally, this is the song that started it all. Or, at least, it brought line dancing to the national spotlight. You cannot go to a dance hall without hearing this line dancing classic.
