Beautiful Gray-Haired Mom Defies Aging Norms And Becomes A Model In Her 50s

Ladies and gentlemen, the silver vixen revolution has arrived. Popular actresses like Sarah Jessica Parker and Andie MacDowell have been blazing a trail by being unafraid to show off their naturally gray hair, with models like Brazilian Rosa Saito following suit as well. Now, British model Caroline Labouchere is joining the gray army.
Labouchere initially had no intention of ever becoming a model. While living in Dubai, the mother of two found herself depressed and struggling to get by. However, in 2017, a breakthrough appeared in the form of a golden opportunity. Her daughter, Amelia, who was working as a model at the time, approached her for help with a campaign she was involved in. Amelia said the brand was looking for a “gray model.”
“I was not a model by any means, but I did have gray hair. So, I applied, was flown into London for a casting, and was chosen as the face of the campaign,” Labouchere wrote on her website.
From there, her life began to turn around for the better. She said she began embracing her natural beauty more.
“Up until then, I had never felt beautiful in my life. Attractive? Yes. But beautiful? No. What I felt on the set of that shoot was unlike anything I had ever before. To put things into perspective, I hadn’t even felt this special on my wedding day. I didn’t even question whether I would be able to do the job that day; it was as if everything just fell into place,” she wrote.

In her younger years, Labouchere told Vogue she had never truly felt comfortable in her own skin.
“I was brought up to not look in mirrors. I don’t think I ever felt beautiful – not even on my wedding day. When I was younger and a camera pointed my way, I turned away,” she said, adding that it was only in her 50s that she began to feel differently. “I didn’t experience this feeling of beauty that I have in the past year of my life,” she reflected.
However, appearing in her first campaign as a model shook her to her core and changed her feelings about aging.
“I’m surprised when people are not trying to be the best version of themselves, because we only live once. I like to be healthy, because I want to live a long life. I don’t want to be sitting in an old people’s home. I have to do everything I can for that not to happen. Why would I give up at 50? This can be the best time of your life,” she added.
Now, Labouchere has not only stopped dyeing her hair but has become unafraid to let her natural beauty loose. She described herself in her Instagram bio as such: “At 58 years old, I am the person I always was but never had the opportunity to be.”
She also told That’s Not My Age that she is on the path to accepting herself and living her best life.
“I believe I’ve become better looking as I’ve got older. I feel complete now. To be gray… For some reason, it just does empower you. It’s my crowning glory,” she said.
