Barbra Streisand Gushes Over Her Grandchildren In Adorable Photos
Jul 14, 2023
Barbra Streisand is an absolute legend in the entertainment industry. One of the few entertainers to have been awarded an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award (EGOT), Streisand can really do it all.
After getting her start by performing in nightclubs and on Broadway in the 1960s, she soon transitioned to film and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her iconic portrayal of Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl" in 1968. She continued to find success both musically and in Hollywood, even winning a second Oscar for her work composing music for the 1976 version of "A Star Is Born."
One aspect of her life that isn't in the public eye as much as her career is her love life. She was married to actor Elliott Gould for much of the 1960s, and together the couple has a son, actor Jason Gould. Streisand and Jason even appeared as mother and son together in "The Prince of Tides."
After divorcing Gould in the early 1970s, Streisand went on to have a couple of other relationships over the next couple of decades with people such as Don Johnson, Richard Gere and Andre Agassi. However, she married the man who would go on to become her longtime husband on July 1, 1998. The pair have been happily married ever since, celebrating more than 25 years together. Today, Streisand and her husband, actor James Brolin, have a wonderful life together and have continued to show that some Hollywood relationships can stand the test of time.
While Streisand and James don’t share any children together, Streisand has become a loving stepmother to his sons, actor Josh Brolin and Jess Brolin, and daughter Molly Brolin. Now, she’s also a doting grandmother to Josh’s four kids with whom she’s shared some magical moments.
When Streisand’s stepson, Josh, and his wife, Kathryn Boyd, were expecting their first child together in 2018, the actor told People Streisand was over the moon.
“My wife got her a bracelet that said 'Grandma' on it and she started crying,” the “No Country For Old Men” star said.
He added in the lead-up to the birth, Streisand was very much the doting grandmother already.
“She is one of those… it’s annoying but in a really great way, (with) emails every day and like, ‘Hey, I thought of this name, what do you think of that? When can I come over and feel the baby?’” said Brolin, who also has two adult children from a previous marriage.
“She is really into it and I love that she is into it. I mean, it’s like very typical Jewish grandmother who is saturated by this event. It's awesome,” he remarked.
Josh isn’t the only one who has taken note of Streisand’s seriously involved ways as a grandmother. Her husband, James, told Closer Weekly that the change in Streisand’s demeanor is evident “the minute a kid comes into the room.”
“She just changes as a person, she falls apart,” he gushed.
He added he loved seeing the way his wife switches modes when her maternal instincts kick in.
“She is persnickety. ‘Who put those flowers there? You moved that — that’s supposed to be on the table right there.’ The minute a kid comes in, all of that just goes out the window, and it’s really fabulous to see somebody disarmed,” he said.
Luckily for us, it’s not just Josh and James who are privy to Streisand’s loving ways. Many adorable moments shared between Streisand and her grandkids have been shared online as well.

In an interview with Parade back in 2009, Streisand talked about how grateful she was for her personal life and her ever-growing family. The accomplished singer talked about what it was like being a grandmother and said:
“Oh, I love it, I love it. Our granddaughter came over the other day, Josh’s daughter. She's 16 years old and it was the sweetest thing—she just wanted to spend time with us. I cancelled all my appointments. I had a lawyer’s appointment and a business appointment and I said, ‘I can’t make it today.’ It’s so much fun to be with her. That’s more important now. More important than business.”
While it’s heartwarming to see Streisand so passionate about the kids and grandkids in her own life, the singer has also made sure to use her platform for the betterment of others as well.
“What you could do with money is great,” she explained. “You know, after-school programs for kids. Giving them the music and art that is being eliminated from schools.”
Streisand continued:
"I just took a class called arts therapy expression. If kids coming from dysfunctional families, poor families, could have this form of expression — a way to express the anger and confusion — it would be so helpful to society. Maybe they wouldn’t have to go out and become violent. Express the pain through art or music.”
When Josh spoke with SiriusXM in 2018, he talked about his parents’ excitement about becoming parents, “especially” Streisand. It was clear from the jump that Streisand would become an incredibly doting grandmother — and she has proven this to be true ever since her grandkids were born.
Josh and Boyd welcomed their first child, Westlyn Reign Brolin, in November 2018. On Jan. 28, 2019, Streisand shared a sweet snap of her cradling the infant during a family dinner with the caption: “We were at a restaurant but the most delicious thing was my granddaughter Westlyn!”
Later that same year, she shared another snap at the dinner table holding little Westlyn with the caption, “Nothing lovelier than giving thanks on Thanksgiving for family and friends, and flowers.”
James joined in on the fun in January 2020, when Streisand posted photos of her and her husband walking arm in arm with Westlyn, as well as another photo of her feeding the toddler as she sat in an open kitchen drawer.
In March 2020, Streisand shared one of her sweetest photos with Westlyn, who she is seen holding as the child was touching Streisand’s cap. “One of Jason’s first words was “hat” — and now it’s one of Westlyn’s first words too! 💛” she wrote in the caption. Another cute photo taken in July 2020 showed Westlyn sitting on Streisand’s lap as her dogs surrounded them.
In October 2020, Boyd shared a sweet photo of Westlyn in their driveway saying goodbye to Streisand and James, who were ready to leave in their car. “Missing our Cali quarantine pod in a big big way. 🖤” Boyd wrote.
Josh and Boyd welcomed their second daughter, Chapel, on Christmas Day, 2020. Streisand dotes on Chapel as well, and in May 2021, shared a photo of her and Boyd showing off their beaded bracelets with the caption, “Matching bracelets...across generations! ❤️”
In August 2021, Streisand posted a shot of Chapel holding her album, “Release Me 2,” and captioned it:
“My youngest fan...our sweetest little 2nd granddaughter. ❤️”
