Baby Panda Throws An Adorable Tantrum When Caretakers Try To Take Away His Favorite Toy Ball
Jan 09, 2019
It is no surprise when a human baby becomes attached to a favorite toy. But this sweet little baby panda is warming hearts everywhere with his attachment to a toy ball.
The adorable panda lives at the San Diego Zoo. Named Xiao Liwu, the panda was just a few months old when zookeepers gave him a brand new green ball. Just like when a human baby receives a new toy, Xiao Liwu went crazy for the ball.

Although the zookeepers also gave Xiao Liwu some bamboo and a tree limb to play with, it was the ball that captured his attention. The objects were given to the panda in an effort to encourage interaction and learn about the world around him. When the caretakers tried to take the ball away from him, the panda held on tight and would not let go.
Every time the ball would pop out of Xiao Liwu's grasp, the caretakers would roll it back to the delighted panda. This game of back and forth kept the panda occupied during his entire medical examination. Nutritionist Jennifer Parsons had to slip the tape measurer under the ball in order to get an accurate reading of Xiao Liwu's size because he would not let it go. Even though the busy panda usually protests these medical examinations, he did not put up a fight this time because he was distracted by the ball.
Thanks to the distraction, the doctors were able to get all of the information that they needed. Xiao Liwu weighed in at a healthy 14.5 pounds and measured 29 inches long. The once infant panda is now a thriving adult still living at the San Diego Zoo.
