Baby Girl Recognizes Aunt On Video Call As She Starts Telling Her About Her Day
Apr 23, 2021
A baby girl recognized her aunt while seeing her on Facetime. The sweet moment was captured on video and uploaded during March 2021. The baby was sitting snugly in her car seat while her mother held a phone in front of her face. She heard her aunt’s voice and saw her face, instantly realizing who it was.
Her mother noted how her daughter recognized her sister. The baby girl, named Aria, practically beamed. Her face lit up as she began talking to her aunt over Facetime. While her words were not completely formed yet, Aria’s aunt responded sweetly to her niece’s jumbled sentences. The baby continued babbling on in her own language, happy to be talking to her aunt.
The video had messages pop up across the screen, telling the story of the baby girl and her loving relationship with her aunt. After little Aria was born, her aunt spent a whole month with her and her mother. They formed a special bond with each other. The baby girl sat with a cute bow headband wrapped around her small head and pacifier discarded on her chest as she made faces and talked with her aunt. She moved her hands and fingers but didn’t remove her focus from her aunt’s face.
The baby’s mother laughed, happy to see the two talking. Whatever her daughter had to say seemed pretty important. No one really knows what this sweet baby had to say, but it’s clear that she was happy to talk with one of her favorite family members.

It’s pretty common for aunts and nieces to have a special bond with one another. According to a May 2017 article from The Washington Post, this is because aunts and uncles don’t necessarily need to be in their nieces and nephews’ lives, but they choose to be anyway. They’re also great resources when children need an adult friend but don’t feel comfortable talking to their parents about whatever it is they need advice on.
According to The Washington Post, “(A)unts and uncles may have a more relaxed approach with their nieces and nephews, offering different and more encouraging solutions to a child’s problems.” This can help the child learn how to trust adults and feel comfortable going to them for help. This also helps further build the bond between children and their aunts and uncles. “These and other entertaining exchanges could help solidify a powerful and trusting relationship,” according to The Washington Post.
Faces are actually one of the first things babies learn how to recognize. An article from What To Expect, a site dedicated to providing knowledge to future parents, gave more insight about just how soon babies are aware of what they’re seeing. “Studies have shown that even newborns, with their eyesight limited to about 12 inches, can recognize a face, and, in fact, prefer to look at faces,” according to What To Expect. Although babies can begin recognizing faces soon after they are born, they typically reach this milestone around the time they are 2 months old, according to What To Expect.

The Aunt And Niece Connection
One thing parents should take note of is that as babies learn more about their surroundings, their emotions about what they see can change. According to What To Expect, babies will typically develop favorites and showcase that feeling once they begin to recognize faces fully. While object permanence and memory are later steps in a baby’s development, it is important to remember that sometimes a baby may forget a face. So don't freak out if your baby doesn't remember someone! What To Expect encourages parents to allow their children to study the faces of their family members so they can remember and recognize them for the next time.
The video of baby Aria and her aunt talking showed how the little girl was able to recognize her aunt from all the time they spent together. She smiled and made surprised faces as she continued telling her aunt whatever story she seemed to have. She moved her mouth dramatically, speaking unknown words. Her aunt was definitely interested and continued to listen to her tiny niece babble on, responding happily and encouragingly.
“You did all of that today?” she asked her niece as the baby made more noises. Aria moved her small arms a bit, getting more excited as she continued on with her conversation. The video ended with the aunt and niece lovingly conversing with each other. How long they spoke after the video ended is unknown, but it’s clear that their bond is just as strong as ever and that the love they have for each other is adorable and genuine.
