Baby Boy Passes Away After Being Left In Hot Car While Mom Goes Shopping For Two Hours

A 7-month-old baby has died in Arizona after being left in a hot car during the extreme summer heat for an extended period of time. On Aug. 7, 2021, the baby boy had been inside the car for two hours in the parking lot of Superstition Springs Mall in Mesa, Arizona, while his mother had been shopping inside the center. Police and paramedics were called to the scene to remedy the dire situation, but unfortunately to no avail.

The Centers for Disease Control has explained that it is never safe to leave children and infants unattended in a car in any weather condition, even with the windows left cracked open, according to the Daily Mail. With parents leading busy lives, it’s common to forget something here and there, but forgetting about their children has been shown to be extremely hazardous and sometimes even fatal.

Some recommendations for making sure parents remember their children are in the car or not include placing objects that the parent would need when he or she exits the vehicle, as a way to make sure that the baby or child is checked on. Another suggestion is to keep a stuffed animal in the child’s car seat when the child is not in the car and to move the stuffed animal to the front passenger seat when the child is in the car.

After a day at the mall turned into a nightmare for one mother, consequences for her actions are still pending following the death of her 7-month-old baby boy.

After being left in a hot car for two hours, a baby boy in Mesa, Arizona has died. The Daily Mail reported that even in the shade, the temperature of the area on that day reached close to 100 degrees fahrenheit. After the mom had gotten back to her car, she discovered her baby sitting inside the vehicle, and proceeded to call emergency services. According to 12 News, the police roped off a large area of the parking lot near the JCPenney at the mall, and said the baby was alone for two hours in a turned-off car.

By the time police and paramedics arrived at the scene, the infant was not breathing, as per the Daily Mail. Fire crews took the baby to a local hospital after attempting to resuscitate him, where the baby later died. The Daily Mail reported that an investigation has begun, but no charges have yet been filed against the baby’s mother, and she has yet to be identified. The mother also did not release any explanation regarding how she came to leave her child in the hot car. 

Some parents may not completely understand the dangers of leaving their child in a car, as temperatures inside the vehicle can typically exceed those outside by up to 50 degrees, as per the Daily Mail. Temperature rise typically occurs within the first 30 minutes a child is inside a car. According to 12 News, this story is the first reported hot car death of a child in the state of Arizona in 2021.
