Authorities Are Now Alerting People To Take Their Car Registration Out Of The Glove Compartment
Mar 04, 2019
In this day and age, it’s more important than ever to be careful about our own safety. Well, it turns out that something we’ve probably all been doing for many years isn’t the safest way to approach the situation.

You’ve more than likely kept your car registration inside of your car since the day you received it, particularly in the glove compartment. It’s the most obvious place to keep the document, as you know that you’ll always have it with you in case you are pulled over and need to show proof that you own the vehicle.
But now authorities are warning against this practice, and stating that this is, in fact, a bad place to keep the vehicle registration for safety reasons!
But what makes this place so unsafe?

Well, as it turns out, your vehicle registration is an important piece of information that can actually get you into some trouble if someone comes across it or steals it. Criminals are now forcing entry into parked cars, obtaining the vehicle registration and can get ahold of your address from the document.
In many reported cases, addresses have been stolen in this manner which eventually leads to the criminals robbing the home address that was listed on the registration. Since keeping your vehicle registration in this area is such a common practice, it’s easy for criminals to find addresses of homes to rob in this way.
With this new information in mind, it’s also important not to keep any other important documents in your vehicle. Keeping your information safe is more important than ever in the world we live in today, and by keeping your important belongings on you at all times instead of in your vehicle can be an easy way to prevent crime. If you have money, electronics, or other noticeable items in your car that someone may want to steal, you’re making yourself a target for thieves and criminals.
The more valuable items that they see, the more likely they are to try to break into your vehicle to obtain the items or try to get valuable information from you. Try to reduce the reasons that someone may want to break into your car by keeping your belongings safe and at home, or in your purse or another type of bag that you do not leave in the vehicle when you exit it.
But how can you ensure that you always have your registration on you if you can’t keep it in the car? What’s the best place to keep the items, if you can no longer keep them in the vehicle?
Many police departments are now accepting photocopies of the document, so taking a picture of the registration on your phone can help you if you ever need the information in a bind. You may want to keep your registration at home, have a copy in your phone’s camera roll, and create your own copy that doesn’t list your address in the glove box.
