At 82, Martha Stewart Criticized For Concerning Detail In Her Photos

Oct 16, 2023

Martha Stewart has been a prevalent figure in the home and lifestyle industry as she has been successful in multiple professions and endeavors. She has succeeded through various business ventures, publishing opportunities, merchandising, and electronic commerce. She has also hosted her own television shows, written for many magazines and newspapers, and authored cookbooks, which quickly became bestsellers. With such a long-lasting career, it’s impressive that the talented and busy woman has found the time to connect with her fans on various social media platforms.

Despite being one of America’s sweethearts and one of the kindest people in the hospitality world, Stewart has been known to shock people with her adventurous ways every now and then. Stewart does not act like the typical woman of her age and is often involved in controversial situations, although she has always been unfazed. One of the times Stewart received some backlash from the internet included when she posted a seductive selfie on Instagram in July 2020 with her lips pursed and her eyes making direct contact with the camera while sitting in her swimming pool.

She then explained that the photo was a mistake as she didn’t know the camera was turned on her. However, because of the scathing remarks that followed it, she decided to take more sultry photos and post them.

“I didn’t know what a ‘thirst trap’ was, but now I do,” she explained. “Now I’m looking for the next thirst trap.”

Stewart came under fire again from fans after she posted a picture on Aug. 28, 2023, of her cruise to Greenland. Some fans who saw her use an iceberg to cool her drink took offense and reprimanded her. Keep reading to know more.

The multi-hyphenate is also a fitness buff who takes skincare and pilates seriously.

“I work primarily with two very excellent dermatologists, who are very conservative about anything that they would do to my face,” Stewart shared. “A little Juvederm injections here or there every now and then, maybe twice a year, and that’s basically the skin treatments that I get.”

Stewart's attitude to skincare helped her when she became a model for a sports cover. Stewart made history when she became the oldest model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine.

“You know, that was kind of a request I have never had before,” Stewart told hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie. She added, “And to be on the cover at my age was a challenge. I think I met the challenge.”

She revealed that she was approached about appearing on the cover in November 2022 but didn’t necessarily go out of her way to prepare for it. The billionaire said she “didn’t starve herself” but looked well as she leads “a clean life anyway — good diet, good exercise and healthy skin care and all that.”

As for the honor of becoming the magazine’s oldest cover model, Stewart said it boiled down to “a testament to good living.” She continued:

“I think that all of us should think about good living, successful living and not about aging. The whole aging thing is so boring.”

The cover photo showed that the icon was anything but boring. In the awe-inspiring image, Stewart lounged in a tropical setting wearing a white swimsuit with a plunging neckline and an almost-regal gold cover-up as she smiled broadly at the camera. The mom of one used to be a model, which perhaps explained her confidence and poise.

Another thing that wasn’t out of place for Stewart was the callouts she got after her post about icebergs. The 82-year-old businesswoman embarked on a cruise from Iceland to Greenland and has been sharing her experiences aboard the ship.

She started to update fans when they crossed Denmark and set out for Greenland. However, on Aug. 28, 2023, she posted a carousel of photos amid Greenland’s fjords. Some of the snaps also included pictures with the crew at Swan Hellenic Cruises and icebergs and glaciers.

“End of the first zodiac cruise from @swanhelleniccruises into a very beautiful fjord on the east coast of greenland. We actually captured a small iceberg for our cocktails tonight,” Stewart captioned the post.

The second slide of her post showed two small blocks of ice on a black cart, while some of the other slides showed some glaciers. While many fans thought the pictures delightful, some others expressed anger and disappointment at the public figure’s lack of concern for climate change.

“I generally love Stewart and the excesses of her life because he’s about beautiful gardens, homes, and food, but wealthy white people drinking their iceberg cocktails while the planet is in flames is a bit tone deaf,” someone ranted

Another person complained, “Global warming and melting ice caps but we need glacier ice for cocktails?! Talk about tone def. Been a fan for years but I’ve seen enough caviar lately as I struggle to buy groceries that I’m out.”

“Stewart the ice caps are melting don’t put them in your drink,” a third Instagram user admonished

“I noticed that you used the word 'captured.' It gives me pause to think that perhaps global warming is really being caused by a vast network of iceberg poachers,” another climate activist slammed
