At 78, Cher Goes Blonde & Rocks Edgy Masculine Outfit But Fans Slam It As A ‘Mess’ & ‘Insane’

Cher has been an icon for the majority of her life thanks to her amazing talents as an actress and singer. As a member of the musical duo Sonny & Cher, Cher skyrocketed to pop stardom in the late 1960s and went on to achieve great success in the years following. She has struggled with heartache and hard times throughout her life but has always been a beacon of positivity and happiness for many people all over the world.

Cher’s staying power in the fickle entertainment business proved stronger than ever when, at the age of 78, she was invited to perform at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Oct. 15, 2024. Cher proved her mettle and cemented her icon status as she took the stage alongside the all-female line-up, including the much younger performers such as Blackpink’s Lisa and South African artist Tyla. On the celebrated lingerie brand’s stage, Cher rocked out to her hits “Strong Enough” and “Believe” as stunning models strutted down the runway for the show’s final round.  

But Cher didn’t just wow the audience on the stage. Before the show started, she walked the red carpet in an outfit that almost had to be seen to be believed. Even in her 70s, Cher proved that she had not lost her courage to experiment with bold style choices.

Drawn from the edgy brand The Attico’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Cher’s outfit consisted of a fishnet top underneath a trendily oversized grey blazer. Her matching grey and baggy harem-style pants featured large diagonal stripes in shades of eggplant and brown, with zippers clinching the bottom of the pants at the ankles. The outfit was tied together by a statement belt with small metal hoops and a chain cinched at the waist. Cher kept her make-up and hairstyle minimal, with her now blonde locks falling in soft waves around her face.

The look inspired a flurry of comments ranging from blazingly critical to somewhat sympathetic from fans across social media.

Cher’s edgy look, which encapsulated The Attico’s exploration of “masculine identity with oversized silhouettes,” prompted a round of disapproving verdicts.

“Mama what you wearing,” one puzzled fan asked, as others called the outfit “a mess,” “insane,” and “not the look.”

“She looks pretty bad,” one user opined, as another remarked, “I like Cher with blonde but whoever dressed her needs to get fired!! How dare you!!!”

The sentiment was echoed by another user who wrote: “I’ll say it. Cher’s style is horrendous. But I live for every waking moment of this woman! ❤️”

While the style choice did not garner a unanimous seal of approval, fans praised Cher’s beauty and joie de vivre, which shone through on the red carpet as she walked arm in arm with her boyfriend, Alexander Edwards, who is 40 years her junior.

Others agreed that she “ages so well,” finding it hard to believe that Cher was “78 years old and rocking it 💖”   

One user shut down Cher’s critics with a succinct and straightforward comment that read:

“She’s a legend and she’s having fun. Who cares if she has a young boyfriend, had plastic surgery and dyed her hair blonde. Live your life! You only go around once! 😊”
