Cher has been an icon for most of her life thanks to her exceptional acting and singer talents. As a member of the musical duo Sonny & Cher, Cher skyrocketed to pop stardom in the late 1960s and achieved great success in the following years. She has struggled with heartache and hard times throughout her life but has always been a beacon of positivity and happiness for many people worldwide.
With plenty of drive and ambition, Cher worked hard at perfecting her skills as an entertainer. Her bold personality helped her meet influential people along the way, but ultimately, her own talent made her the star she still is today.
Cher’s powerful and unique voice helped her stand out against other singers. The performer has been dubbed the “Goddess of Pop” for being a pinnacle figure in the male-dominated entertainment industry. With a career spanning over six decades, it’s no surprise that this talented woman has received a plethora of awards and praise for her incredible work.
While Cher’s personal life was a big part of her rise to stardom after she and Sonny became well-known for their show and, by extension, their marriage, her love life changed following their split in 1975.
Following a second marriage and many famous boyfriends, love found Cher again when she went public with a beau less than half her age in November 2022. Music producer Alexander Edwards and Cher met at Paris Fashion Week in October 2022. Still, despite being criticized by the public, their age difference is not something the songstress thinks too much about.
As their relationship progressed, it seemed like the star had embraced a new role — a stepmother! Read on to learn more about Cher’s younger partner and her role in Edwards’ child’s life.
Cher was born Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946, in El Centro, California. She didn’t always live a lavish lifestyle, as Cher and her family struggled financially while the star was young. Before she was even a teenager, Cher had already shown a great interest in the arts and even produced her own performance of the musical “Oklahoma!” in her early school years.
In 2017, Cher was honored with the Billboard Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards and gave a memorable performance of “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time,” her first awards show performance in over 15 years. Cher showed her love for ABBA in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” in 2018 and released a cover album appropriately titled “Dancing Queen” in September 2018.
Spending so much time in the spotlight has led to much of her private life being made public, including her marriage to Sonny Bono and the life of their son Chaz Bono. A lesser-known part of Cher’s life is her second marriage and the birth of her second son, Elijah Blue Allman. His father was Gregg Allman, a musician, singer and songwriter.
It is clear that musical talent runs in Cher’s family. While Elijah has also ventured into the entertainment industry, his life hasn’t been as publicized as the rest of his family’s, but he has still shown just how talented and handsome he is today.
As Cher has continued to be a prominent figure in the spotlight, her personal life has continued to be discussed. In 2023, she started making headlines again online due to her relationship with someone far younger than her.

Cher, 78, first confirmed her relationship with rapper Edwards, 38, via her own social media account. In November 2022, the star posted a photo of Edwards to Twitter, captioned simply with a love heart emoji.
Naturally, this got people talking as they became aware of Edwards’ age and the massive age difference between him and Cher — a whopping 40 years! However, the songstress vehemently defended their union with a series of replies on the social media platform.
In the series of tweets, she confirmed that the couple met at Paris Fashion Week and that he had been treating her very well. One fan wrote, “He better be treating you like the queen you are!” to which Cher replied, “LIKE A 👑”
Another follower asked if Cher’s longtime best friend Paulette Howell had met Edwards yet, to which Cher replied, “No … Everyone in my family has,” seemingly confirming the relationship is getting serious already.
Despite many of her fans’ approval that if Cher is happy, they’re happy, others weren’t so kind and expressed their uncertainty about a relationship with such a significant age gap. But Cher didn’t seem bothered as she spoke directly to the naysayers:
“I’m Not Defending us. Haters are Gonna Hate … Doesn’ Matter That we’re Happy & Not Bothering Anyone.”
She went even further and addressed the fact that many people were skeptical of Edwards and what he might gain from their relationship. She explained:
“As we All Know … I WASNT BORN YESTERDAY, & What I Know For Sure …There Are No Guarantees. Anytime you make a Choice You Take a Chance. I’ve Always Taken Chances … It’s WHO I Am”
Cher summed up how she feels about their age difference when she wrote:
“LOVE DOESNT KNOW MATH, IT SEES ♥️♥️”
Speaking with Kelly Clarkson on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Cher praised her beau. She admitted that “on paper,” their relationship may come across as “kind of ridiculous,” but added:
“In real life, we get along great. He’s fabulous, and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve, you know? But he’s very … he’s very kind, he’s very smart, he’s very talented and he’s really funny. So, and I think he’s quite handsome.”
She added she appreciated that younger men seemed to enjoy her humor and that she had shown a knack for wanting to do “outrageous” or “stupid things.”
In an interview with The New York Post, Cher revealed that she initially didn’t think they would work together.
“Well, you know, it was really really weird, because I wasn’t looking for it really,” she revealed. “And we met because my friend kept nudging me to go ask him about his teeth.” Adding, “So I’m looking at this beautiful guy with white hair, tatted up and with these teeth. And so I said, ‘Dude, I like your grill.’ And, he went, ‘No, they’re my teeth.’ And so we just talked for a second.”
On Jan. 6, 2024, Cher posted a photo on social media of her sitting on Edwards’ lap in a chair. “Love is Love,” she wrote in the caption.
Fans commented on the photo, with some even asking why Cher was shedding tears in the photo: “Why are you crying? You should be thrilled that you’re in love. Or are these tears of joy.”
While some cast doubt on it, others couldn’t be happier, saying: “everyone deserves it. Enjoy! ♥️”
“Love has no shape, size or color go be happy,” another fan commented.
Apart from being a well-known singer and actress, Cher has since fully embraced her role as a mother. Cher is a doting mother to two sons, Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman.
Following Chaz’s transition to becoming a transgender man in 2022, Cher admitted that accepting her child’s transition had its fair share of difficulties at the start.
“Look, I didn’t handle (Chaz’s coming out) all that well in the beginning,” the singer confessed to She Knows. “It took me a minute. Because you’ve been with a child for 40 years, and then all of a sudden … but you know what? Chaz was so happy!”
Meanwhile, Cher has had a strained relationship with her youngest son, Elijah. Cher filed for conservatorship for Elijah but was denied by a judge as he proved to the courts that he could manage his own finances.
“I am and have been capable of managing my own financial resources and resisting fraud and undue influence. I do not need a conservatorship,” Elijah said in a filing.
Despite everything, Cher remains hopeful with everything as she values her family the most.
“I really like being a mother,” she told Closer Weekly. “I’ve got children that are absolutely the best thing in the world.”
Cher’s maternal instinct continues to radiate as she seems to have an active role in the life of her new boyfriend’s child, Slash.
In an interview with TMZ, Edwards described Cher as an “amazing stepmom” to Slash, the producer’s son with rapper-model Amber Rose.
Born in 2019, Slash Electric is the son of Edwards and Rose, but they called it quits and separated in 2019.
Rose and Edwards’s breakup seemed amicable as they continued to co-parent their child. Reacting to Edwards and Cher’s relationship, Rose told Jason Lee in an interview:
“I’m very happy that he’s with Cher because it creates stability for when (our) son goes over there.”
When Lee asked if she was the kind of mom who would scold her children for spending a lot of time at their stepparent’s house, she said, “Absolutely not. Why would I do that? Let’s be very clear — why would I ever be mad at her? I don’t want him. Somebody gotta tolerate (Edwards), and it ain’t gonna be me, right?”
However, Rose made her conditions on co-parenting Slash clear: “The only thing that I ask is that you’re present; is that you’re a present father, you help with me get him through private school.”
She added that she wanted Slash to enroll in the same private school as her other son, where the tuition fee is $5,000 a month.
“Just be a present father,” she concluded. “I don’t care if it’s her, or a dog, or a dolphin or a f–king rat. I don’t care who you are f–king, I’m not that type of baby momma. That’s not who I’ll ever be. I want him to be happy because a happy parent is good for our child. So that’s all I care about.”
Both Edwards and Rose have shared photos and videos of Slash on their social media accounts, captivating audiences with his innate charm and cuteness.
