At 73, Bruce Springsteen Makes Heartbreaking Decision Amid Health Scare & Sends ‘Apologies’ To Fans
Sep 08, 2023
Bruce Springsteen has left a big impression on music. According to CNN, the "Born in the U.S.A" singer, nicknamed The Boss, is "the most honored American rock star of all time." Throughout his six-decade-long career, the rock star has received a plethora of awards, including Grammys, a Tony Award, an Oscar and a couple of Golden Globes. The famed singer is also regarded as one of the founders of Heartland Rock.
With a career that started in the '60s, Springsteen has a long musical catalog unmatched by any other rocker musician. Rolling Stone gathered a panel of expert writers and artists to pick the Grammy-winning singer's top 100 tracks. From the list of top charting singles, the top three were "Born to Run" as number one, "Badlands" placed second and "Thunder Road" was the third best song of Springsteen’s career.
In 1999, the "Dancing in the Dark" singer was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Along with his numerous musical accolades, Springsteen received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States, by President Barack Obama in 2016.
Music has always been one of Springsteen’s greatest loves; it led to his rock career, fame and eventually his long-lasting marriage to Patti Scialfa. The couple first met in 1984 when Scialfa joined the E Street Band. They married in 1991 and went on to welcome three children together.
While Springsteen is known for his tough persona, the star unfortunately had to make an announcement in September 2023 that left him and his fans “heartbroken.”
Back in May 2023, Springsteen garnered concerns after he took a tumble while he performed on stage in Amsterdam. However, true to his resilient nature, he quickly brushed off the fall and continued to rock the stage.
During his performance of the song "Ghosts" with his E Street Band at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Springsteen attempted to ascend the steps leading to the stage. As he took the stage, a misstep led to a harrowing fall that left fans shocked and concerned.
Social media platforms buzzed with worried fans' comments, who expressed concern over the unexpected mishap. Videos that captured the fall quickly spread online. However, Springsteen handled the moment with his trademark humor and spirit. With his bandmates’ assistance, he swiftly returned to his feet and showed the crowd that he was unharmed.
His determination to proceed with the show reassured fans that he was not seriously injured. “Thank goodness nothing happened to Bruce Springsteen when he fell on stage last night,” one fan said, per CNN. Another fan posted, “It wasn’t that bad — he just laughed it off and delivered a fantastic gig to us all.”
At 73, Springsteen's resilience and unwavering dedication to his craft are remarkable. In a conversation with his friend and fellow music legend Tim McGraw in 2021, Springsteen revealed some of the secrets behind his energy and endurance.
"The biggest thing is diet, diet, diet. I don't eat too much, and I don't eat bad food, except for every once in a while when I want to have some fun for myself," Springsteen said. "So I think anybody that's trying to get in shape, exercise is always important of course, but diet is 90% of the game."

Unfortunately, on Sept. 6, 2023, Springsteen and his team made a painful decision to announce that Springsteen would have to postpone several stops on his tour. The Boss took to Instagram to share the news:
“Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band have postponed all performances currently scheduled for September 2023, beginning with tomorrow's show scheduled for the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, NY. Mr. Springsteen is being treated for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease and the decision of his medical advisors is that he should postpone the remainder of his September shows.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, “peptic ulcer disease occurs when open sores, or ulcers, form in the stomach or first part of the small intestine.” A bacterial infection can eat away at the digestive system’s protective lining. People who often take pain relievers are more prone to develop ulcers.
Springsteen further commented:
“Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows. First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”
The 73-year-old received plenty of positive comments from his fans, who would patiently wait for his return to the stage. “Health first. Take your time boss ❤️,” one person commented. Another said: “Hang in there Mr boss man!! Will keep you in the prayers!! 🙌🏼.”
Another fan kindly commented: "Bruce, we hope you make a 100% recovery and get back on the road as soon as possible. There we will be waiting for you. Get some rest and take care. We love you. ❤️🙌."
We wish Bruce Springsteen a speedy recovery. Are you a fan of The Boss? Have you ever seen him in concert? Let us know, and be sure to pass this along to your family and friends.
