At 61, Johnny Depp Fixes ‘Rotting’ Teeth & Fans Are Loving His New Smile

Johnny Depp is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s biggest and most bankable stars. He made his name in the TV show “21 Jump Street” before entertaining audiences in movies such as “Edward Scissorhands,” “Donnie Brasco,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Chocolat” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films. Depp started his career as one of Tinseltown’s most celebrated heartthrobs due to his bad-boy good looks, striking cheekbones and handsome smirk. 

However, as the actor entered his 60s, observers began noticing that his signature million-dollar smile wasn’t as striking as it used to be. Photographs of Depp at movie premieres showed his pearly whites were no longer as pearly – or white – as they used to be, prompting reports that the star’s wild lifestyle was getting the better of his gnashers.

“Johnny Depp’s teeth are literally rotting away,” one social media user wrote alongside a photo of Depp’s teeth at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.

Celebrity dentist Dr. Apa attempted to assuage fans’ fears by telling Page Six that Depp’s teeth were not, in fact, “rotting” from the inside but were simply the result of “aggressive” wear and tear.

“He has wear, which has been a cumulative effect over a lifetime. … Wear like that, sometimes we see it in 30-year-olds in really aggressive cases and sometimes we see it in cases like Depp,” the dentist said.

Depp did not do his teeth any favors either when, in preparation for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean,” the actor had gold caps put on all his front teeth. 

“(Producer) Jerry (Bruckheimer) was slightly uncomfortable, and the Disney executives weren’t exactly enthusiastic about it,” Depp recounted, adding that he then took a few minutes off.

However, social media is buzzing over videos of Depp showing he may have had his long-awaited dental glow-up.

In August 2024, clips of Depp in the Bahamas surfaced at a bar called Lorraine’s Cafe & High Tide. One of the establishment’s bartenders, under the handle @killerbartender, posted a montage of clips of the star entering the bar and politely shaking hands with other patrons. The bartender then mixes up a refreshing cocktail for Depp, who gamely plays up for the cameras. Before leaving the bar, Depp again shakes hands with others before exiting.

The bartender later posted more photos of the encounter, along with a video of Depp seated at one of the bar’s tables in animated conversation. Depp was dressed casually in a loose, buttoned-down shirt with scarves tied around his waist, which he accessorized with a baseball cap and sunglasses. However, it wasn’t his style that got viewers talking.

“Am I right too see that his teeth are locking (sic) brighter than ever before???” one user asked, while another said, “Is it ke (sic) or does his teeth look more straight?”

“Geez the man has a new grill and it looks great, not sure why he waited so long? Maybe he hates the dentist? Lol,” a comment read, while another user remarked, “Def got his teeth done! Looks so good.”

“The pirate teeth are gone. Pearly whites look beautiful 🥰🔥🙌🍹,” an appreciative fan chipped in.

Many also thanked the bartender for sharing the videos and photos, saying they were happy to see Depp looking healthier and enjoying himself.

“Thanks for sharing! He looks amazing, happy and healthy,” one viewer said, while another echoed a similar sentiment and wrote, “So lovely to.see him relaxed and enjoying some down time 😍”
