Brad Pitt had quite the year in 2024, starring in several movies like “IF” and “Wolfs.” Late in the year, the actor returned to the red carpet and social media to promote the movie, “F1.” The film, scheduled for release in 2025, features Pitt as a retired race car driver who is persuaded to come out of retirement in order to mentor a talented prodigy. The movie also stars British actor Damson Idris as the prodigy.

On Oct. 26, 2024, Pitt did the unexpected and surprised fans by making an appearance at the F1 Mexico Grand Prix qualifying race. He stunned fans further by stepping into one of the race cars to film additional scenes for his movie instead of simply sitting back and watching, like most celebrities at sports events. The scene included Pitt removing his helmet and waving at the multitude of fans cheering in the crowd.

The actor also sat down with former British race car driver Martin Brundle for Sky Sports, where he expressed excitement for his motorsport film. He said he enjoyed making the film so much, even admitting to being “a little giddy right now.”

“And it’s just great to be here, man. We’re just having such a laugh, such a laugh. It’s the best time of my life,”  the actor gushed.

“F1” has a star-studded cast that also includes Javier Bardem. While the crowds cheered excitedly for Pitt when he made his surprise appearance, some netizens expressed their disapproval of the actor taking on the role. Read on to find out why.

Brad Pitt has long been a heartthrob, seemingly unable to miss the mark with his roles. However, it seems as though “F1” might not be as well received by many people for a simple reason – some believe the actor is “far too old for the role” to play the role of Sonny Hayes.

After seeing pictures of him on the set, fans took to social media to voice their opinions of the actor and the role. Pitt turned 61 in December 2024, and fans think that, despite his talent, his age might work against him in the film. One user was outright critical of Pitt’s overall talent, commenting:

“Brad looks awful and all his films flop. Nobody should be giving him roles.”

Another netizen alluded to the actor’s looks, alleging that he’s had some surgical work done on his face and not approving of the result.

“Facelift Brad looks old,” they wrote.

Others questioned the idea of someone in their 60s playing an F1 race car driver, thinking the actor was too old for it to make sense. One netizen even made a scathing comparison between Pitt and famous F1 driver Fernando Alonso, asking:

“A 60 year old (sic) driving F1? Who does he think he is, Fernando Alonso?”

While many fans thought the actor would not be “realistic” nor “remotely convincing,” others hoped the actor would pull it off.

“Beautiful Brad Pitt loved him 🥰🥰🥰,”  one user praised.

Another shared Pitt’s excitement for the movie, gushing:

“What an amazing actor! Amazing movie coming up!❤️❤️.”

Despite the vitriol surrounding his age, Pitt had the time of his life stepping into the role. As one of his most exciting roles, the actor said he was happy to be living “every guy’s dream.”
