At 55, Man Admits He Feels 10 Years Younger After Spending 93 Days Living Underwater

Jun 12, 2023

Joseph Dituri, a retired naval officer and scientist from Florida, has made history by spending over three months living in a small pod at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, setting a new world record for the longest time spent underwater. However, little did he know that he would become the subject of his own groundbreaking research, experiencing remarkable health improvements and even reversing the aging process by 10 years.

The daring experiment was part of a study investigating the effects of a pressurized environment on the human body. Dituri, 55, who is also known as Dr. Deep Sea, has achieved a groundbreaking feat by spending a total of 93 days living at the bottom of the ocean. He also broke the previous record of 73 days and reaped some astonishing health benefits from the experiment.

According to USA Today, Dituri's experiment was not designed to break records, but the scientist wanted to learn about the effects of extreme pressure on the body. Dituri also apparently desired to live to be 110 and wanted to know if there was a bio-hack for this.

So, from March 2023 to early June 2023, a team monitored Dituri's brain waves, blood pressure and heart rate, urine, muscle mass measurements, and even ear pressure while he was underwater. During this period, Dituri said he felt 10 years younger and experienced a remarkable improvement in his sleep patterns, with 60 to 66 percent of his sleep being deep REM sleep.

Medics who assessed Dituri upon his return to dry land were amazed to find that his vitals, DNA, and stem cells resembled those of a much younger person compared to before the experiment. Additionally, his cholesterol levels dropped by an impressive 72 points.

Dituri's incredible rejuvenation has been attributed to the pressurized environment in which he lived. It was apparently similar to that of hyperbaric chambers, which are known to improve brain health, cognitive functions, physical performance, sleep quality, and gait. The scientist's metabolism also increased, resulting in a leaner physique, and his stem cell count has significantly multiplied, which has promising implications for reversing visible signs of aging.

"The inflammatory markers in my body are all down," he told CBS News. "Every single one of them is down by about half. All of my stress, and we've been doing stress through urine, saliva, as well as blood (are down), so the cortisol in my body is through the floor."

The scientist also did his best to stay in shape underwater by doing pushups, sit-ups and yoga. He observed a diet of three eggs in the morning, a salad for lunch, and meat and vegetables for dinner. He didn't have any desserts but relished drinking coffee every day.

While the study primarily aimed to find new ways to revive marine environments, it inadvertently turned Dituri into an invaluable human experiment. His underwater dwelling, with just a pad measuring 100 square feet and located 30 feet below the ocean's surface, provided the ideal conditions for this groundbreaking research.

The experiment has also highlighted the potential of hyperbaric oxygen chambers as an anti-aging treatment. Dituri believes that these pressurized chambers could be used in the future for brief underwater vacations, offering individuals the opportunity to experience the benefits of hyperbaric medicine to rejuvenate their bodies.
