At 53, Naomi Campbell Welcomes Baby No. 2 & Admits It’s ‘Never Too Late’ To Be A Mom

Jun 30, 2023

Naomi Campbell is one of the world's most beautiful women, and even now that she's reached her 50s, she's still incredibly gorgeous. Being one of the original five supermodels, her lifestyle for many years of her life included jet-setting around the world, attending fabulous parties, wearing gorgeous designer dresses, and being friends with a host of famous faces. What's incredibly impressive is that she's still working as a model! In March 2023, she walked the Boss Spring/Summer 2023 Miami Runway Show in Florida, proving age is nothing but a number.

But on top of her work in fashion, Campbell is also an activist who campaigns for various charities and brings awareness to societal issues. She uses her presence on social media to highlight the problems that are dear to her heart and often interviews celebrities about causes they're passionate about too.

With her hectic life, you'd think that Campbell would have no time for a personal life, and that's partly true. Having dated a string of notable men over the years, Campbell has actually been engaged twice, but both unions didn't make it to the altar. She's also spoken about wanting to become a mother at some point, but it wasn't a decision she had ultimately decided until she had her first child at the age of 51 in 2021. In June 2023, Campbell announced the arrival of her second child at the age of 53.

Now that Campbell is experiencing motherhood on her own terms, the icon has opened up about what it was like to become a mother at a rather unconventional age.

Over the last few years, Campbell had spoken in interviews about wanting children, but it appeared she changed her mind a few times before taking the plunge. In 2017, while speaking with the Evening Standard, she revealed her desire to have children and admitted her age didn't concern her. She said:

"I think about having children all the time. Now with the way science is I think I can do it when I want ... I'll see what the universe brings me. For now, what the universe has delivered is very much in the spirit of a 'chosen family.'"

However, just two years later, in 2019, she admitted she wasn't quite ready to become a mother just yet, according to The Sun. At the time, she said, "Not yet — I'll see what the universe brings me." Well, it seems the universe knew it was her time soon after that!

At the time, the model was dating former One Direction member Liam Payne, but after a brief two-month romance, the couple called it quits. Prior to that, she had dated British rapper Skepta. The two men she has been engaged to in her life include U2 bassist Adam Clayton, whom she was with from 1993-1994, and Formula One racing boss Flavio Briatore, whom she dated on and off from 1998-2003.

Campbell also told Vogue Arabia that she believed having children would help her keep her inner child. "I'd love to have kids. I don't discount anything in life. I love kids and always will," she said. "When I'm around children, I become a child myself. That's the little girl I don't ever want to lose," the icon shared

A source close to the star told People that the super-model had always wanted to be a mother.

"She's wanted a baby for a long time, more than 10 years," the source said. The source also said that she is an icon as a celebrity, and she'll be an icon as a mother as well. In 2019 Campbell shared with the Wall Street Journal it was all about timing in her life.

"And anyone who's surprised Naomi is having a baby on her own, her own way, and on her own timetable doesn't know Naomi Campbell," the source shared. "Hasn't she redefined everything she's ever touched?" the source added to People

Finally, the big announcement came in March 2021. Campbell took to Instagram to share the good news in a now-deleted post that included a photo of her daughter’s little feet in her hands. Campbell has been relatively mum on the exact details of her first child’s birth, but that was exactly the way she wanted it to be.

“I can count on one hand the number of people who knew that I was having her,” she said later. “But she is the biggest blessing I could ever imagine. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”

She added she “always knew that one day I would be a mother, but it’s the biggest joy I could ever imagine. I’m lucky to have her and I know that.”

Her announcement spurred a flurry of media coverage, much of which focused on the fact that Campbell was having her first child at the age of 51. She was praised for embracing and normalizing becoming an older mom and celebrated for once again, paving her own path.

Not only has Campbell fulfilled her dream of having a child, the supermodel has now been blessed with two! On June 29, 2023, she shared a post on Instagram announcing the arrival of her second bundle of joy alongside a precious photo. The picture was a close-up of a tiny newborn swaddled in white being held by Naomi as their hands are clasped together. Another hand of a small child also held theirs. The photo was captioned:

“My little darling, know that you are cherished beyond measure and surrounded by love from the moment you graced us with your presence. A True Gift from God 🙏🏾, blessed ! Welcome Babyboy. 💙🍼✨ #mumoftwo ❤️💙”

She also ended her post with the quip, “It’s never too late to become a mother.”

Just days earlier, on June 21, 2023, Campbell had been spotted in Paris, France, at a Fashion Week show but did not appear to sport a baby bump. It is yet unclear whether she carried the baby to term or used a surrogate.

Campbell has been known to be quite private with her first child, whose name has not even been revealed to the public. However, Campbell gave fans a peek at her little one when she appeared on the cover of Vogue in March 2022 while holding her daughter. In the interview with the magazine, she asserted her child “wasn’t adopted – she’s my child.” Campbell said becoming a mother had brought her such joy and fulfillment that she began encouraging her friends to start having children. “I’m telling them all, do it! Don’t hesitate!” she exclaimed.

While Campbell hasn’t dropped her career, her priorities have shifted since becoming a mother. She said:

“My daughter comes first. Everything I do, I do for her – that’s it. It’s so completely selfless, isn’t it?”
