Angler Catches 8-Ft-Long Giant Albino Catfish Weighing A Whopping 194 Pounds
Nov 06, 2019
River Ebro is the source of at least three record-setting albino catfish adventures. In 2011, Chris Grimmer and his pals brought in an 8-foot whopper weighing 194 pounds, breaking the previous local record by two pounds.
Fun fact: The previous record was held by a blind woman! Shelia Penfold caught her record-setting white albino catfish in 2010 and held the record for about a year, until Grimmer came along.
Grimmer, a British gent in his 40s, was on vacation near Barcelona, Spain doing a bit of fishing when his line was stripped of bait. That clued him that this would be a big one!

Their tour guide, Ashley Scott, had left to grab a bite to eat but rushed back when they called him with the news. The fish was brought onshore and weighed, putting Grimmer in the record books. Scott told the Daily Mail, "we realized straight away that it was a record."
'"t took me ages to bring it in, it was like trying to reel in a bus."
After being weighed, the fish was released back into the wild unharmed. These guys have their priorities straight. They know they don't need to kill a magnificent specimen to get their thrills.
Part of the fun was the clapping and cheering from the shore as they lifted this monster from the waters of the Ebro. They topped it off with popping open a bottle of champagne, which was ritually "shared with the fish" by pouring a drop of it into the river.
Grimmer was on a week's holiday with three friends. The four had traveled to this part of Spain because it's turbid river is popular for outdoor adventures.
Grimmer went home with a great adventure under his belt with which to regale friends and family for years to come. During the battle to the land the fish, his rod bent double! When it was over with, he could barely walk. It took two people to lift the fish from the waters of the Ebro.
But the Ebro was not done setting records. Two years later in 2013, another vacationing Brit, Bernie Campbell, landed a 206-pound albino catfish with the help of his son Gary.
They were enchanted with the rare beauty of this white fish and Campbell had been on a mission to catch one for seven years straight. His persistence finally paid off on day three of his 2013 holiday.
Are you looking to break some records? Maybe River Ebro should be your next vacation destination!
