Alarmed Veterinarian Not Willing To Honor Owner's Request To Put Down Two Perfectly Healthy Dogs
Jan 10, 2019
Two elderly dogs named Cosmo and Sam are now living their final years in the loving care of new owners Tiffany and Eric Dybas.
If it hadn't been for the compassion and fearlessness of one veterinarian, Cosmo and Sam 's story would've been much different.
The two lab and pointer mixes were taken to the vet to be euthanized by their former owner. That owner could no longer take care of the two dogs, so he figured it was in his best interest to pull the plug on his dog's lives.
While the owner thought there was no reason to keep these two dogs alive, thankfully, the veterinarian knew better.
As the owner pushed her towards euthanizing the animals, the vet took a look at the health of the dogs. Though both animals were 10 years old, she didn't see anything that would require the dogs to be euthanized

With very few health issues, the good-natured dogs didn't deserve to die. The vet certainly couldn't allow such a thing to occur.
Apparently, the owner attempted to put the dogs down as he was moving in with a new girlfriend that was allergic. With the vets help, the two dogs now had new chance at living life.
As the owner no longer wanted to keep the dogs, the Begin Again Rescue Co. sent Penny Emerson to take the two dogs to a new home.
The dogs seemed to know they were being abandoned. As Emerson arrived to pick up the animals, she noticed they were dejected and unable to eat.
Once Emerson got Sam and Cosmo to warm up and begin to eat, the two dogs were transferred to the the People's Animal Welfare Society to wait for a new owner to fall in love with them. That is where Eric and Tiffany found Sam and Cosmo.
The couple recently lost their dog earlier in the year and were so moved by the article they read about. Their dog Brutus was 17 years old at the time he passed away, so they connected with Sam and Cosmo in a way that no one else might have.
Though many people hesitate at the thought of adopting older dogs, it isn't a bad thing to do. As Eric Dybas put it, these dogs "deserve a chance".
Every now an then, Emerson will hear news about Cosmo and Sam. Living with the Dybas is just what these two dogs needed.
The couple lovingly share their beds and their homes with the dogs. With a backyard big enough for the dogs to roam around in freely, Sam and Cosmo really found their happy ending.
This story was made possible by the actions of one vet that truly saw the potential in two older dogs. Now, Sam and Cosmo can live out the remainder of their lives in peace and happiness with owners that love them.
