'AGT’ Judges Award Dance Group With Golden Buzzer For Their ‘Unexpected’ Performance That Gave Them ‘Goosebumps’

“America’s Got Talent” has been home to some of the most unbelievable performances from different performing acts not just in the United States but also from around the world. 

In the 18th season of the popular NBC program, one major group defied all odds and presented their talent, which made all of the judges, as well as the host, push the golden buzzer, which only proved that their performance was unique and mind-blowing.

In a video shared by the show’s official YouTube channel in August 2023, one of the dancers from Chibi Unity came to the stage along with an interpreter to have a small chat with the judges, specifically Simon Cowell, who had been with the show since its earliest seasons.

The man told the famed television personality that he came from Niigata, Japan, and he and his dancemates flew halfway across the world just to showcase their talent on “AGT.”

When asked why Chibi Unity decided to audition in 2023, he told Cowell that the group’s desire to present on the show started when they watched Tokio Myers, who won the 17th season, the year prior.

Initially, the group had a big pressure on them as Cowell said Tokio Myers “are the best dance act we’ve ever, ever had” on the show, to which the representative agreed.

Later on, the judge asked if Chibi Unity was better than them, but he refused to answer and just simply told them that they looked forward to performing their act, which added an extra layer of mystery to the performance.

Later in the video, a number of performers, who wore gray hoodies and sweatpants as well as white paint on their faces, came to the stage to deliver a very surprising dance act that featured shadow movements, outfit reveals, and extreme facial expressions.

After their breathtaking act, Chibi Unity received a standing ovation and loud screams from the crowd.

Judge Howie Mandel told the group that they took dancing “to another level,” especially the emotions that they exuded through their body movements, which he considered “inspirational.”

He also noted that he wanted to see them perform in an hour-long show in Las Vegas.

On the other hand, Heidi Klum said she loved the act because everything was “unexpected” from the music to the outfit change, and she added, “it was very dynamic and super good.”

Sophia Vergara also expressed her fascination with the group as she told them that she got “goosebumps” while watching and her “heart was beating.” 

“It was the best dancing I’ve ever seen in my life… I would say it was the perfect 'AGT' audition,” she added.

When it came to Simon Cowell, he described the act with three words: “powerful,” “original,” and “incredible.”

He then told his co-judges that all of them were thinking the same thing, so he asked host Terry Crews to join them, and they later pressed the golden buzzer together, which made Chibi Unity jump up and down and even gave them a bow.

In a statement provided to People Magazine, the group’s manager, Rena Goto, said they were very surprised by the outcome. 

“...This is such an achievement to have been able to experience such a prestigious occasion as the Golden Buzzer on the stage that we've always admired,” Goto added.
