Adoptive Mom-To-Be Caught Flak For Farewell Message To The Baby After Birth Mother Changed Her Mind

Jun 20, 2023

Small business owner and Virginia resident Page Hearn and her partner, Warren Cash, were overjoyed at the prospect of becoming parents through adoption. Months of preparation, both emotionally and financially, had been invested in their plans to embark on their journey to adopt a baby girl into their loving home.

The couple meticulously remodeled their house, transforming a room into a beautiful nursery, carefully selecting furniture, clothes, books and every little detail that would welcome their new addition. Their dreams were on the verge of becoming a reality.

However, their dreams were shattered when the baby's birth mother made the heart-wrenching decision to keep the child, leaving Hearn and Cash devastated and heartbroken. The couple had eagerly anticipated welcoming a newborn baby into their family and never expected that the birth mother would change her mind.

In an attempt to process her overwhelming emotions and sorry, Hearn turned to social media, specifically Facebook, to share her heart-wrenching experience on June 6, 2023. She wrote a poignant and raw post, expressing the pain that had consumed her and her husband because of the loss.

"There is no greater pain than losing a child and while we're so thankful that she's okay; we have lost her and we're not okay," Hearn wrote.

Hearn bared her soul, revealing the stark reality that instead of coming home to a room filled with love and warmth, their baby girl was going to an “empty RV with only the outfit she was wearing.” It was a stark contrast to the vision they had held so dearly in their hearts.

The post attracted both sympathy and criticism, as some readers felt that Hearn's words were harsh and judgmental toward the birth mother's circumstances. Accusations of poverty shaming were leveled against Hearn, who was accused of belittling the birth mother's situation when she mentioned the RV.

One commenter accused Hearn of being disrespectful to the birth mother by posting the baby's picture on her Facebook in writing her farewell letter. Another commenter described Hearn as a typical rich white woman who was so "smug while doing stupid things." People also told Hearn that the birth mom had the right to change her mind and she should have just given the baby's stuff to the birth mother.

"You didn’t lose a child," someone wrote on Hearn's Facebook post. "You can literally just go adopt a child that needs a home. That baby has one already."

According to WCCB, Hearn knew the birth mother and helped arrange the adoption ever since she asked the couple to be the adoptive parents. She and Cash were with her all the way and even picked the baby's name together. Hearn was the one who cut the cord during the baby's birth, but within moments, the hospital told the couple that the birth mother decided to keep her child.

Hearn also addressed her haters on Facebook after her goodbye letter got 10,000 comments. She clarified on June 9, 2023, that she wasn’t shaming the mother when she wrote that the baby had nothing when they left the hospital.

"She had nothing because she had been telling us for five months that she did not want another child, NOT because she's incapable of taking care of her."

Hearn also clarified in a post on June 11, 2023, that she’s far from rich as some people have judged her. Most of her money goes to supporting her advocacies and charities. She emphasized that her words were not meant to shame the birth mother but rather to convey her own heartbreak and loss.
