A Sheep Mated With A Goat To Make Adorable Hybrid Baby
May 05, 2020
In 2014, sheep named Mama mated with a goat named Michael in a petting zoo in Scottsdale, Arizona. Their offspring, a geep, was named Butterfly.
Animal hybrids are not a new thing, but they're still somewhat uncommon. Some of the more known ones include the liger (lion-tiger), pizzly (grizzly–polar bear), came (camel-llama), and the mule – which is actually a hybrid of a horse and a donkey, something a lot of people do not know.
But have you heard of the geep? Meet little Butterfly, the adorable goat and sheep hybrid. She was born in My Petting Zoo, a petting zoo located in Scottsdale, Arizona.

"We were not even aware that she was pregnant because we don't have a male [sheep]," Priscilla Motola, owner of My Petting Zoo, told USA Today. But what they do have is a male goat, Michael. Michael the goat and Mama the sheep had decided to take their relationship to the next level. Thus, Butterfly was born. "Basically she has baby goat feet and a baby goat face, but she has wool."
Priscilla told USA Today her youngest son had pointed out that the baby "looks just like a butterfly because she has so many colors" and that's how she got her name.
"Both the sheep and our goats eat alfalfa, so I'm assuming [she's] going to stay in that area," she adds. Butterfly is literally a goat in a sheep's clothing.
According to USA Today, Butterfly might be Arizona's one and only geep. What we know for sure is that she is the cutest kid on the block.
