A Police Department Painted A Patrol Car Pink In Honor Of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Oct 02, 2019

Approximately 42,000 women die annually from breast cancer and 1 in 8 of all women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with this condition during their lifetime according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. October is well-known as being Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a month when men and women alike wear pink clothes and ribbons. Notably, some police departments across the country are taking this a step further by using their cruisers to raise awareness.

The Albuquerque Police Department is one of the agencies that had made a bold move. It has entirely painted one of its cruisers bright pink. This is a car that will undoubtedly turn heads as it travels through town. More than that, it is making people talk about breast cancer and turning it into the focal point that it needs to be. It was displayed at the Care4Cancer Car Show fundraising event, and the car will remain bright pink throughout the month before being returned it its normal color.

Albuquerque is not the only city to act in this way. For example, the police department in Novi, Michigan has a pink and white cruiser. It is also participating in Pink Car Signing fundraiser, which allows local residents to write the name of a loved one who has been impacted by breast cancer on the patrol car. The benefits will support the Believe in Miracles Fund.

In El Segundo, you will also find a pink patrol car as well as many officers sporting pink patches. They are participating in the Pink Patch Project, which is inspiring many law enforcement agencies across the country to take similar efforts. Cohasset has been participating in the Pink Patch Project for several years, and it is selling these patches to the public for $10 each. The proceeds directly benefit breast cancer research and treatment.
