8 Signs You're Emotionally Exhausted And Need Support
Jul 03, 2018
To be a person means to go through a lot. There are so many demands and stressors. While you might try to put on a positive face and push through, it can be hard to do so for so long. If you feel like you need to hold back your emotions, you need to release them more than ever. These signs will help you to realize if you're emotionally drained and what you should do to cope.
1. Being Irritable
Anger is a natural, healthy emotion. But when everything makes you angry or puts you on edge, you're likely emotionally drained. Remember that these feelings are totally understandable, but it's an emotion that should really be reserved for things that are deserving of ire, not the way someone sounds when they chew.

2. Lack of Motivation
Does it seem like a struggle to even get out of bed and brush your teeth? When you're emotionally drained, it can seem like there's a boulder weighing down on you at every turn. Should you take care of things, you're not doing it out of any sort of enthusiasm. Instead, it's obligation driving you forward. The hope is that we wake up in the morning feeling energized and excited about life, not feeling already defeated.
3. Constant Anxiety Attacks
If you've never had an anxiety attack, be glad. They are one of the worst sensations you'll ever go through. Stress can cause us to feel emotionally drained. It can also cause us to feel like we are under threat even when nothing is deliberating threatening us.
4. Sleeping Problems
After a long day, you turn out the lights, climb into bed, and fall asleep. If only you could. There are so many thoughts, worries, and regrets running through your head. Even if you feel yourself starting to drift off, you're jolted back awake by an intrusive thought.
5. Easily Triggered
When you're emotionally drained, it doesn't take much for something to set you off. Just one mistake or slip of the tongue can be enough to make you feel like everything is and always will be hopeless.
6. Lots of Headaches
Is there a dull (or worse) pain running through your head seemingly 24/7? When your emotions are running amuck, it' s your mind that takes the brunt of the abuse. Then, your head starts to feel constantly under stress and pain. Taking some ibuprofen might help for a second, but it' s a long-term problem that needs to be addressed.
7. Frequent Crying
There's nothing wrong with crying, but it's certainly concerning if you're doing it on a regular basis. Those who are emotionally drained can find that crying is a way to feel better before their problems mount up again. With all the concerns piling up inside of you, it might be the only way to feel some semblance of normality.
8. Not Relating to People
Some might think that the solution for being emotionally drained is to be around others, as they let you focus on something other than yourself. However, that can backfire, as it can make you feel even more alone than you already were. While you might know that people love you and want to be around you, it can be difficult to not feel like a burden.
