7-Year-Old Gets Everyone Singing When He Performs ‘Peaches’ At School Talent Show

Jun 15, 2023

Kids are full of light, wonder and imagination, and to see them share their passions with others is incredibly heartwarming. Whether it be writing their own stories or learning how to sing or play an instrument, children have proven to have an array of talents from an early age. What’s even more precious is when parents support their kids and help them share their talents with the rest of the world.

A 7-year-old named Cairo Koomson proved to be quite the talented child when he performed the song “Peaches” from “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which was released in April 2023. The cast of the animated film includes the likes of Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-JoySeth Rogen and Jack Black.

Black co-wrote and sang the song “Peaches” as Bowser to Princess Peach (Taylor-Joy) in the film. The song went on to do well, debuting at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s safe to say that many people enjoy the song, including Cairo.

Cairo’s mom, Tracy Koomson, uploaded a video of Cairo performing “Peaches” at his school talent show in May 2023, showing just how much the audience absolutely loved it. Sat behind a keyboard, Cairo sang the song with as much emotion as Black did in the film. Not only that, but he was dressed for the part, as the first grader even wore a Bowser costume during the performance!

While it was clearly a fun moment for everyone involved, Tracy shared how the song held great significance in her household, making Cairo’s performance even more heartwarming.

Tracy spoke with TODAY about how her 6-year-old son, Eli, has autism and was moved to tears by Cairo’s performance of “Peaches.” A few days before the talent show, Eli amazed his family when he burst into singing the song from “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” Tracy explained how Eli typically only speaks in sentences composed of three to four words.

Afterward, Cairo decided he wanted to “be Eli’s voice” at his school’s talent show and would perform “Peaches.” Tracy shared:

“He was like, ‘Mom, I’m going to sing for Eli. Cairo is very mature, and he’s also self-sacrificing. A lot of the attention goes to Eli because he’s special needs, but Cairo never complains. He absolutely adores his brother."

Tracy uploaded a video of Cairo, dressed as Bowser, singing “Peaches” on YouTube and TikTok. She captioned the video, “My 7 year old son sang ‘Peaches’ at his school and the crowd went crazy!!!”

The crowd was amazed by the first grader’s performance, with many of his peers chiming in to sing along. One person commented on the TikTok video, “Bro became the coolest kid in school right then and there.” Another person said, “As a teacher, the purity of this would make me cry 😭”

The people in the audience weren’t the only ones blown away by Cairo’s performance. According to TODAYPratt shared the video on his Instagram Story. "He tagged Jack Black and was like, 'This guy might steal your job,' or something like that," Tracy said. However, Black has yet to respond to the video.

Still, Cairo is a “dreamer” and has big hopes for the future, such as starting his own YouTube channel where he travels the world, documenting it through a child’s eyes.
