35-Year-Old Mexican Man Walks For The First Time In A Decade After Losing 728 Pounds

Dec 06, 2019

Juan Pedro Franco gained fame, but he was famous for something that created significant troubles in his life.

At his heviest, Franco weighed roughly 1,300 lbs. Needless to say, this hampered his mobility and put his health at considerable risk.

Then again, to say his mobility was merely "hampered" would not be an accurate assessment, either. Franco could not walk for 10 years. 1,300 lbs. represents a lot of weight to carry. The human legs only have so much strength. Due to his extreme weight, Franco found himself bedridden.

While there is undoubtedly much sadness to Franco's earlier plight, his current situation reflects a great deal of inspiration. Franco grew tired of his extreme obesity. According to the Daily Mail, he committed himself to lose weight, and he did. Franco dropped a full 728 lbs. While he is still heavy, he can walk once again. The 35-year-old does require the help of a cane, but he can move around.

Sadly, people may draw opinions about Juan Pedro Franco that aren't accurate. They may think he let his weight get out of control due to negligence. When you look at his life story and situation, you learn this was not the case. Franco found himself in a difficult situation after an unfortunate series of events. Franco was involved in a car accident, and, afterward, he contracted pneumonia.

Although no one knows for sure if the man hailing from Mexico indeed was the "World's Fattest Man," Guinness World Records officially named him so in 2017. Juan Pedro Franco took his record-breaking "accomplishment" as motivation to make a significant change in life. Franco went the surgical route to deal with his obesity. He underwent a host of different surgeries, and, as the results show, Franco did lose weight.

Before the surgeries, Franco experienced high blood pressure, diabetes, and other medical issues. In all likelihood, Jose Antonio Castaneda, Franco's surgeon, saved his life with the procedures.

Franco now talks about the joys of no longer being the "World's Fattest Man." He feels good about being able to take a bath, walk around, and even raise his arms. Millions of people take those things for granted. Juan Pedro Franco assuredly does not.
