We all learn some form of social standards from childhood. Common courtesies are ingrained into our minds. When someone holds the door for you, then you thank them.
When someone sneezes, then you bless them. Even chewing with your mouth closed is part of proper social etiquette.
A few traditions might seem goofy, but good manners always play a big role in how you are perceived by those around you.

1. Give An Hour Notice If You Run Into Problems
Don’t wait till the last minute to let your hosts know you will be running late for dinner. Tell them as soon as possible. It will make you look a lot better in the end.

Never take pictures of other people at parties. You don’t know what they want to be made public on social media. They could be spending time with someone that they shouldn’t be. They could be seen doing something that they don’t want to be public. Never share pictures of other people without their consent.
3. Don’t Air Your Dirty Laundry On Social Media
Keep the drama to yourself. If you continually use your online influence to shame others, then no one will trust you. You’ll lose all of your presence in social-circles before long.
4. Don’t Stand Out When You Are Late
If you are running late to an event, then try not to draw any attention to yourself when you get there. Take a seat in the back of the room. Slowly sneak your way through the door without making a big commotion.
5. Don’t Reply With One-Word Texts
Responding with a single word through text can be completely disrespectful on the receiving end. You never know how some emotionally driven individual might feel about how you are speaking to them. Always be clear with complete sentences. You never know when it will save you a ton of trouble.
6. Cut Off Your Phone
Just cut your phone off during events. It’s rude to intercept a nice night with random phone calls. Vibrating phones are annoying too. Checking texts during a presentation is like poisoning your your own ego.
7. Don’t Have Conversations On Public Transit
It’s bad enough that everyone has to sit in a confined area with strangers. don’t be that guy who is having a full blown conversation right next to a train full of people. You’re on the bus with others. Please be quiet.
8. Quickly Store Airplane Luggage
Store your overhead luggage as quickly as possible when boarding a plane. You want to get out of everyone’s way as quickly as possible. The same thing goes for disembarking. You should patiently wait your turn as the rows in front of you leave the plane. Stay out of the way as much as possible.
9. Don’t Be Overly Polite
Pulling out a chair seems like a good idea. It’s not when you don’t know the appropriate space that a person needs. Obese guests might take offense to a common courtesy. It’s ridiculous, but it can happen. People are so easily offended that you may cause trouble by simply trying to be polite.
10. Keep Your Music To Yourself
Make sure that no one else can hear your playlist when you use headphones. It makes you look like a jerk. Check to see if they are completely plugged in. Keep the volume low too.
11. Don’t RSVP Unless You Mean It
When you let your host know you are coming, then show up. They might be paying for an expensive dinner to serve to you. They may have to reserve a spot for you. It’s just a complete waste on all sides.
12. Ask People If They Can Speak When You Call
You can greatly improve your conversations by asking preemptive if your speaking partner is available. Try making this into a habit every time you call someone.
13. Don’t Hold Bags In Your Lap
It looks very trashy when you have a lap full of crap. It looks worse to have the seat next to you full of junk. Always hang your purse on the back of the chair you’re sitting in.
14. Bring A Gift
Every party should be thought of as a pot-luck. You are expected to bring some kind of gift to share among the participants.
15. Napkins Are Not Tissues
Do not blow your nose at the table. Go to the bathroom to take care of those problems.
16. Keep To The Right Side When Walking
This makes sidewalks so much easier to walk down. Imagine a public hallway that’s orderly. This a gift you can give to the world. Always keep to the right.
17. Leave Clear Voicemail
State your name, then state your number. Leave a clear message describing your purpose for calling. End the message by repeating your contact information again.
18. Shake hands When You First Meet Someone
Shaking hands shows that you respect the other person.
19. Be Courteous To Employees
Be friendly to cashiers. Be nice to waiters. It’s a good way to live your life.
20. Don’t Talk Behind Anyone’s Back
Only ignorant people stir the pot. Don’t talk bad about anyone.
21. Pay For Yourself
You should never expect someone else to pay your way. Chivalry is dead.
22. Warn People About A Wardrobe Malfunction
This includes spinach stuck in your guest’s teeth. Be discreet when you are trying to let someone know they have a giant booger hanging out of their nose.
23. Accept Mints When Offered
They might be trying to give you a hint.
24. If You Can’t Tip, Don’t Go Out
Some people take tipping way too seriously. It doesn’t matter what the waiter thinks about you. It only matters how your guests perceive you.
25. Always Ask Before Touching A Pet
You don’t know if the owner is comfortable with you touching their beloved family dog. Ask before you pet. It could save your life.
