13 Things That Can Make Your Home Look Super Messy Instead Of Cozy
Oct 02, 2018
There are so many things that can make your home seem messy. You love your collectible items, but they take forever to clean. The extra mirrors in your bedroom seem to add to the clutter. There are a number of things that can make your home harder to clean. If you want to keep your home from looking too messy, follow these simple tips:
1. A Sofa Bed
A sofa bed is convenient, but it can look disorganized. When a guest comes over, you have to put the bed away each morning. Plus, most sofa beds are not particularly comfortable. Instead of investing in a sofa bed, just get a regular bed instead. If you do not have the space, just get a standard couch.

2. Collecting Plastic Bags
It feels like such a waste to throw out all of the plastic bags from the grocery store. Unfortunately, these plastic bags can make your cupboards a mess. If you absolutely need to keep the bags, get a box to put them in. Throw out any bags that do not fit in the box. An even better option is to invest in reusable shopping bags. By doing this, you can save the environment and reduce the clutter in your home.
3. Unnecessary Boxes
A box is a convenient place to store your items, but they can take up space. They are also inconvenient for when you actually need an item. You mess up everything in the box to find an old shirt or piece of memorabilia.
If you are storing clothes, just put them in a wardrobe instead. For items that you rarely use, invest in a few large boxes. Then, write on the boxes which items are stored inside it.
4. Hall Coat Racks
A coat rack can be useful in the front hallway, but it can quickly become cluttered. Before long, you have a dozen jackets and sweaters on the coat rack. Instead of allowing this space to become cluttered, limit each person to just one jacket on the coat rack. You can also switch to a smaller coat rack so that people have less space to clutter up.
5. Shoes
When people enter a home, they often take off their shoes. If you do not have a space for your shoes, then the hallway can become cluttered. Get a shoe cupboard or a small wardrobe for the shoes. You can also put a lavender sachet in the shoe wardrobe to make sure that it smells nice.
6. Too Many Mirrors
Many people put a large mirror in their room to make it seem better. While this is an effective technique, large mirrors also require a lot of cleaning. If the room is fairly bright, it is easy to see the dust on the mirror. You can either dust multiple times a week or get rid of your mirrors. If you want to make the space seem larger, try matching your wardrobe's color to the walls.
7. Light Wallpaper in the Hallway
Light walls can end up becoming dirty. Unlike darker wallpaper, light colors quickly show dirt or grime. Avoid putting light wallpaper in locations where messes happen like kitchens and hallways.
8. Wire Hangers
Wire hangers can stretch out delicate fabrics and tear your clothes. Instead of using wire hangers, switch to wooden hangers instead. Wooden hangers will also look more attractive in your closets.
9. Open Shelves
Open shelves might make it easier to access your items, but they leave your rooms looking cluttered. The open environment allows dust, dirt and grease to collect on the shelf. Plus, you have to constantly organize them because people can instantly see the clutter. Invest in closed cabinets instead.
10. Banquet Tables
It sounds like a great idea. If you have a banquet table, you can stretch out your dining space for extra guests. In reality, guests do not come over that often. Banquet tables collect dust and take up unnecessary space. Instead, stick to a smaller table. If you need extra space for guests, have a fold-up table in your storage room that you can bring out on special occasions.
11. Large Mirrors in the Bathroom
Mirrors tend to get dirty when they are placed in the bathroom. When you put a big mirror over the sink, water stains will quickly make it look dirty. The last thing you want to do is clean your bathroom mirror multiple times a day. If you absolutely have to have a mirror in the bathroom, but a small one. Put it 10 inches above the sink so that it is less likely to get splashed when people wash their hands.
12. Dark Lamp Shades
A dark shade keeps light from leaving the bulb and entering the room. If you have a dark lamp shade, your room is darker than it ought to be. A lighter fabric allows light to seep through and brighten up the room. Plus, you can save on electricity because you can reduce the number of lights you need.
13. Carpeted Apartments
Carpets are annoying to care for. They require special cleaning and can quickly become stained. Instead of a carpet, try investing in a rug. A simple rug can be washed or replaced easily.
