12-Year-Old Girl Helps Supply Pet Oxygen Masks To Fire Stations All Over Pennsylvania

Nov 27, 2018

When Emily Rilling of Bucks County, Pennsylvania discovered a local fire station's need for pet oxygen masks, she wasted no time springing into action.

It started when Emily wanted to find a way to help animals for her birthday. She wanted to do something other than raise money, and she quickly realized that there were several fire stations in the area that were short on masks for pets.

"After much research, I found out that most fire stations did not have these life saving masks."

Soon Emily founded Resus-a-pet. Resus-a-pet is an organization that collects kits that are then donated to fire stations all over Bucks County. Each kit contains three masks - one small, one medium, and one large - to fit different types of animals. So far, Emily's efforts have been a huge success. She's donated over 150 oxygen masks to 75 stations in her area through Resus-a-pet.

Now she's working on her next step - creating care packages for families experiencing the effects of fire disasters and donating kits for use in fire trucks. Several fire stations have reached out to Emily, asking how they can get these kits for their own stations - and Emily has delivered!

"This endeavor became larger than I ever expected," she says.

Emily has even gotten in touch with some fire stations in California to see what she can do to help those people and pets displaced by the terrible wildfires. She is currently putting together kits that include not only oxygen masks but blankets, bowls, leashes, and other items needed to care for pets who need a little extra love right now.
