12 Million People And Counting Are In Love with This Farmer's Dance Moves Captured On The Camera

Oct 09, 2018

The end of the year is filled with mixed feelings for a lot of people. On the one hand, we're excited to start a new year On the other, we may be feeling some regret over the goals we didn't reach in the previous 12 months. Almost all of us will be cozied up in our houses, though, enjoying the last few days of our holiday break.

Farmers, however, don't get a day off. On December 30, 2018, Jay Lavrey posted a video on his Facebook page that showed him at work on his farm. What was meant to be a positive video to brighten the day of his friends turned out becoming a worldwide sensation. You can check out the video at the end of this article, but we encourage you to read the backstory first!

Lavery loves doing "crazy things" that make his friends laugh, and Facebook has always been his preferred platform for sharing his antics. In the December 30th video, Lavery is seen dancing up a storm to Sia's single "Cheap Thrills." The positive video is brimming with life and energy despite it being the dead of winter. Lavery gleefully dances down the barn for a curious animal audience of goats and sheep.

At one point, he even goes so far as to strip off his coat and break it down with some slick footwork. You can practically feel the farmer's lively spirit through the screen, and his vibrant energy certainly woke us up and added some spark to our day. Since he first posted the video, Lavery's dance has been viewed over 12 million times.

On his original post, he explains that part of his love for dancing comes from a traumatic back injury 15 years ago. After multiple surgeries including a disectomy and spinal fusion, Lavery still lives in chronic pain. He says that dance and yoga meditation are his alternatives to pain medication, and his one wish is that his video inspires anyone to keep moving in spite of pain as they embark on a new year.

“We have the best community that you could ask for,” Lavery said. “I really lucked out.” While Lavery is thrilled his video has been viewed so many times, he hopes people take away more than just a laugh. He wants people to learn about the farm's vision, which is to bring American a sustainable, eco-friendly food system.

The positive messages and good will behind Lavery's post makes the video all the more enjoyable. In life, there will be plenty of pain we can't avoid, and even some we can never truly escape, but that doesn't mean we have to stop moving.
