11-Year-Old Twins Save Family After Taking Over Wheel From Mom Who Had Seizure On The Highway

Mar 22, 2023

There’s something special about the bond between twin brothers that makes their relationship as siblings unique. Some twins look very much alike, while others share the same traits. Maybe it’s pure coincidence, or perhaps it could be because they were raised at almost the same time and acquired each other’s traits along the way. Either way, there’s something amazing about having twins or being part of one. Not only is it fascinating to see twins existing in the same womb of a mother, but it is also interesting to get to know both persons. Some people consider having twins lucky – and perhaps it couldn’t be any truer for one mom whose life was saved by her twins.

In February 2023, 11-year-old twin brothers Jordan and Jermel Taylor from Massillon, Ohio, encountered a horrifying incident after their mom had a seizure while driving along a highway. But they did not let fear consume them during that moment. Instead, they quickly acted to make sure that they didn’t get into an accident. They not only saved their lives but the life of their mom as well.

Jordan and Jermel’s mom, Crystal Thompson, was driving her two sons to their grandmother’s house when she suffered from a seizure along a highway. Thompson has epilepsy.

The incident took place on state Route 21 near the Route 30 underpass around 10:30 AM on Feb. 25, 2023.

Jordan recognized the warning signs. So, when he saw his mom stop talking, he told his brother about it right away.

“I was like, ‘Jermel, I think she’s about to have a seizure,’ and all I knew was her neck was, like, turned back and it fell against the window,” Jordan told WTRF.

Jermel, on the other hand, took over the steering wheel. Thankfully, he was able to steer the vehicle off the highway.

“While she was having the seizure, I thought to myself, ‘Let’s not injure all the people on the road in the cars, and let’s try to keep everybody safe.’ I decided to grab the wheel and turn into a safer place,” Jermel said.

As soon as they came to a stop, Jordan immediately turned off the ignition and called 911. Meanwhile, Thompson was immediately brought to a hospital where she had MRI.

Massillon Sgt. Audrey Aiello, who was among those at the scene that day, said she was amazed by the kind of bravery the boys exhibited because they saved not only their family’s lives but also those of other drivers as well.

So, Aiello wrote a letter of recommendation to honor the two boys. In March 2023, Jordan and Jeremy were honored by police and Massillon Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry.

"Their brave actions are honorable and we just want them to know that we appreciate everything that they have done for themselves, their mother and for the community," Aiello told News5Cleveland.

Jermel said he couldn’t be more thankful for the kind of relationship he shares with his brother.

"I feel proud of myself and my brother. I feel like we've got a good twin bond," Jermel said.

Jordan, on the other hand, admitted that if there’s one thing he learned from his mother, it’s that they should always be there for each other no matter what happens.

“I felt like I’m always around my mom and my brother 24/7. Even though me and my brother argue a lot, we’re still close, because all I ever remember is that we always stick together,” Jordan said.
