10. Fruit juice
Everyone seems to love fruit juice, but it is not completely made of fruit. They are actually full of chemicals that give it a bright color and delicious taste. It is also filled with sugar. Even if you grab some juice that is 100 % fresh, it still isn’t good for you. It has all the sugar that fruit has but without the fiber. It is better to just grab a piece of fruit.
9. Granola bars
Many people grab a granola bar for a healthy snack. However, almost all granola bars are the opposite. They are very high in sugar and have very little nutrients. It is better to grab some raw almonds or even an apple instead.
8. Baked beans
Beans have a very high level of fiber, which is great. They are also an awesome source of protein. However, this is not the case for baked beans. A can of baked beans is simply salt, sugar, and unneeded additives. They are filled with empty calories. If you want something similar, make your own at home by boiling your beans.
7. Pretzels
Pretzels are thought of as a low-fat snack that can add some crunch without adding a lot of calories. However, they are severely lacking in nutrients. They have a high sodium content and very little protein. Pretzels are empty calories that should be avoided if possible.
6. Veggie chips
Veggie chips have a very small amount of actual vegetables. They are very processed and the nutritional value is slim to none. Regardless if you bake or fry the “chips”, they still won’t add much value to your diet. Raw veggies are a much better option!
5. Processed “fat-free“ and ”low-fat" foods
Once upon a time, saturated fat was declared our mortal enemy. Food manufacturers started removing it from their foods. However, when fat is removed, the food doesn’t taste as good. The manufactures noticed this and started adding lots of sugar to the foods as a replacement. While saturated fat is harmless for the most part, the sugar is horrible for you.
4. Rice crackers
Rice crackers are a favorite snack for many people who are trying to lose weight. However, these crackers are not only filled with carbs, they lack nutrients. They have little fiber and protein and don’t have much nutritional value. They will add calories to your diet, but won’t make you feel full at all.
3. Sports drinks
Sports drinks are made for athletes. However, many people assume because they are for athletes, they are healthy for ordinary people. Sports drinks are full of sugar and salt to keep electrolytes and energy up. Most people don’t need this much sugar or salt in a single drink. If you are not a training athlete, stick with plain water.
2. Nuts
Nuts are a healthy snack when you eat them in moderation. However, only 6 nuts are needed for the benefits and to keep you full. They have a lot of calories when you eat them in excess. They are also often covered in salt or sugar. These take away from the benefits of the healthy nut snack. Eating them in moderation and eating them raw will provide you with the most benefits.
1. Processed organic or gluten-free foods
Many times, products are advertised as gluten-free and organic. People then assume these are healthy. However, this is not true. They are over processed and often contain a lot of sugar and oils that aren’t good for you. These foods usually lack nutrients. If you want a natural, organic, and gluten-free food, eat fruits and vegetables.
