Princess Charlotte, the only daughter and second child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, is blossoming into a confident and spirited young girl. Each year, more of her personality shines through, capturing the public’s attention and affection.

Born on May 2, 2015, at St Mary’s Hospital in London, Charlotte made her entrance into the world as the younger sibling of Prince George. On the day of her birth, Prince William brought George to visit their mother and meet his newborn sister – an early moment in Charlotte’s public life, as reported by The Guardian.

To celebrate her arrival, several iconic London landmarks lit up in pink, including the London Eye and Tower Bridge. Shortly afterward, the royal family announced her full name: Charlotte Elizabeth Diana – a tribute to her paternal grandmother, Princess Diana, and her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

A royal insider told Closer Weekly, “Charlotte is outgoing and oozes confidence. The insider added, “Standing in front of hundreds of paparazzi doesn’t faze her in the slightest. She actually enjoys being in the spotlight!”

The young princess is also exceptionally well known for bearing a remarkable resemblance to her late grandmother. Back in 2018, a fan account on Instagram posted side-by-side photographs of Charlotte and Princess Diana when she was a little girl and noticed their uncanny resemblance.

However, the similarities to her great-grandmother are perhaps even more obvious. If you compare old photos of Queen Elizabeth at Charlotte’s age, the two could even pass as sisters. Charlotte appears to have a fondness for horses, just like the queen did. A source close to the royals told Closer Weekly in 2019 that Charlotte asked her parents for a pony for Christmas. While William deemed her too young to ride, they gave their daughter a toy riding center with accessories.

Princess Charlotte has grown gracefully from a young toddler into a confident and vibrant young girl, and the royal family has always celebrated her birthdays with affection and charm.

Each year, a new portrait is released to mark the occasion – often taken by her mother, Princess Catherine, who, as The Observer noted, is considered the “unofficial royal photographer.” On Charlotte’s sixth birthday, Catherine captured a radiant image of her daughter beaming brightly for the camera.

For her seventh birthday in 2022, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared another joyful image on Instagram, writing:

“Seven tomorrow! 🎂📸The Duchess.” The following day, on Charlotte’s actual birthday, they posted another photo with the message: “Thank you for all the lovely messages on Princess Charlotte’s seventh birthday!”

On May 1, 2023, Catherine once again delighted royal fans with a charming portrait of Charlotte ahead of her eighth birthday. The caption read: “Wishing Princess Charlotte a very happy birthday! 8 tomorrow 🎈🎂 📸 The Princess.” Followers quickly commented on her resemblance to Prince William, with one fan writing, “Looks so much like her dad in this shot!! Just beautiful. Happy Charlotte day!”

However, 2024 brought immense challenges for the royal family. Both King Charles and Catherine were diagnosed with cancer, making it a challenging year for Charlotte and her loved ones. Catherine stepped back from her public duties to focus on recovery and faced additional scrutiny for editing a Mother’s Day photo.

“When the Princess of Wales was attacked for editing her Mother’s Day family photograph, it hurt her deeply,” Majesty Magazine editor-in-chief Ingrid Seward told Fabulous through The Sun.

Following the criticism, Catherine only shared Prince Louis’s sixth birthday portrait on Instagram and X.

“Now when they release a photograph it will be through their Kensington Palace offices,” Seward explained.

Princess Charlotte continues to blossom into a confident and vibrant young royal. On May 2, 2024, she celebrated her 9th birthday, marked by a new portrait released by her parents. Taken by her mother, Catherine, the photo showed Charlotte smiling brightly in a garden at their Windsor home, dressed in a floral blouse and denim skirt. The portrait, posted on X, was warmly captioned:

“Happy 9th Birthday, Princess Charlotte! 🎂 Thank you for all of the kind messages today.  📸 The Princess of Wales” 

Just a month later, Prince William revealed that Charlotte was sitting for school exams at Lambrook School, sharing during a D-Day commemoration event that she “wasn’t looking forward to it” but hoped all would go well. Charlotte is expected to make a public appearance in May 2025 during the 80th anniversary of VE Day, where she’ll join her siblings, Prince George and Prince Louis, on the Buckingham Palace balcony. 

On March 31, 2025, a clip highlighting Princess Charlotte’s close bond with her cousin Mia Tindall, the grand-daughter of Princess Anne, went viral on TikTok, with fans praising their “lifetime friendship.” Over the years, Charlotte has charmed royal fans with her strong personality and varied interests. Known for her love of dancing – particularly ballet and tap – Charlotte is also passionate about horseback riding, art, music, and sports like soccer, rugby, and gymnastics. 

Despite the royal family facing a difficult year due to health challenges, Princess Charlotte continues to thrive. With her poised demeanor, bright spirit, and wide-ranging passions, she is gracefully balancing school life, royal engagements, and personal joy as she grows into her role in the modern monarchy.
